Health Sciences Research Unit: Nursing (UICISA: E)
The Health Sciences Research Unit: Nursing (UICISA: E), hosted by the Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC), is an evaluated and accredited unit, financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) since 2004.
For the 2018-2022 period, UICISA: E is composed by researchers and collaborators of 24 higher education institutions and health services.
Mission
To develop R&D activities at an international and interdisciplinary level, with the purpose of provide a sustainable and socially responsible response to complex problems related to health promotion, disease prevention, and care delivery to sick, disabled and end-of-life patients.
Vision
Leading center towards a modern research in nursing:
- Reference mark in nursing research at a national and international level;
- Promoting environment for interdisciplinary and collaborative research;
- Excellence in science synthesis and implementation for promotion of evidence-informed healthcare;
- Merit in creating healthcare technologies that meet patients’ and health professionals’ needs.
Organization in UICISA: E clusters
For organization and performance purposes, UICISA: E, according to its statute, has established clusters in other institutions. The clusters have their own synergy, while fulfilling and respecting all rights and obligations regulated in UICISA: E’s statute.
The creation of clusters provides the following advantages: researchers from a participating institution may improve internal organization and create their own synergies; the cluster coordinator is represented in the Unit’s Scientific Committee; the elements of each cluster’s productivity are validated and then delivered to the scientific coordinator of UICISA: E for the writing of reports to the FCT.
The criteria for UICISA: E clusters’ creation and the cluster coordinator’s responsibilities are described in the Statute included in the Researcher’s Guide (More information here)
